45 KG Cast Steel Black smith Fabrication Anvil
Cast steel anvil in 1050 Carbon steel, good for knife makers wanting to forge their own blades and other lighter work or for being able to move it around. If making anything heavier than tomahawks and 2 lbs hammers, a heavier anvil will be more effective.
These are Nordic Edge branded anvils in a blocky version of the traditional blacksmith anvil shape, popular with knife makers due to round horn and big, flat face.
The anvil face is milled flat and the rest of the anvil is coated in black for corrosion resistance.
At a weight of 45 kg these are suitable for smaller projects like knife blades while still being able to be lifted out of the way when not in use.
A cost effective way into blacksmithing:
- Hardened to 56-58 HRC on the face
- Face is 30 x 8.5 cm, plus step-down cutting face
- Round Horn
- Square hardy hole 19×19 mm
- Round pritchel hole 12 mm
- Anvil foot is 21 x 21 cm with bolt holes for easy attachment
- Length horn to end of face 490 mm, height 220 mm high.
These are cast and hardened and are flat and hard, but will need to be dressed for best results.
Dressing the anvil is done by rounding the edges using a flap wheel on an angle grinder, or hand files. And the round horn ground nice and even to remove cast marks and the black paint. This dressing makes the anvil more useful, as forging with the sharp corners tend to pinch the steel and create cracks.
These are cast from 1050 steel with Carbon content 0,54%, Silicone 0.255%, Manganese 0.775%, Sulfur 0.016% and Phosphorous 0.012%.
